I’m John Moncaleano, an avid traveler, photography enthusiast, daydreamer, and author of this blog. During the last years, I have devoted my life to get to know much more about this teeny tiny world that we live in, by learning about other cultures, understanding better how others see life and visit marvelous places. All this has been done through traveling, going outside of my known boundaries and from everything that is familiar.
I lived in Colombia until I was 29 years old, I finished my uni studies, worked as a professional engineer doing all the stuff that grown-ups do: Having a decent job, having fun, generate some savings, and think about buying a place to settle. But I felt I still wasn’t ready to settle, far from it, I was near my thirties and I wanted to make something special before hitting the next decade. And that I did, I went to study overseas to Australia. After some years living there and getting used to a whole new way of living I felt like this new place was home to me. I also noticed that Asia was not far from me anymore!!!! all my life I felt that going to places like Thailand was like going to the moon.
My first visit to Asia with some friends took me to interesting places, such as Bali and Phuket, where I did all the touristy things. Some of which I would not do again and I will highly encourage others to avoid (such as Elephant treks, animals shows, or the infamous ping pong show). At that moment, I got bitten hard by the travel bug, and so, I committed to visiting at least two new countries each year. This made me an often visitor of this continent, having gone to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Philippines, and Vietnam, among others. Thanks to these trips I have understood much more the kind of traveler I am, and the kind of traveler I don’t want to be.
I also combine my wanderlust with my passion for photography, which better helps to show to other the marvels I have witnessed. All the photos and captions in this website are of my property. Please contact me f you are interested in any of them.
